We power the field with robotics and AI
DroneDeploy is the robotics and AI platform used on over 3 million sites in 180 countries. We give teams a live, trusted record of what’s happening on-site – so they can manage work based on reality, not assumptions.

Our Story

It started in Kruger National Park
Mike, Jono and Nick had grown up together in South Africa, and in 2011 decided to solve a problem rangers were experiencing when protecting 7,500 square miles of wilderness from poachers. The rangers considered using drones, but they required weeks of training, Windows laptops and it was hard to share the data. The three wondered why drones couldn’t be controlled from a mobile phone, and why the data wasn’t just shared in the cloud. It seemed to be a problem worth solving. And a few years later that idea became DroneDeploy.

From anti-poaching flights to 3 million sites
They moved to San Francisco and went through an incubator with a clear thesis: build software that would make drones accessible and productive tools for anyone. Software that would turn any drone into a data collection machine, and make that data easy to understand. The Kruger National Park project itself lives on through DroneDeploy.org, and what started with agricultural fields and construction sites grew into something much larger. Two acquisitions – Rocos in 2021 and StructionSite in 2022 – expanded the platform from aerial into ground robotics and 360° interior capture. Today, DroneDeploy is the unified platform for construction, energy, infrastructure and agriculture teams across 180 countries.

Every field team empowered with robots and AI
We started with flying robots, but always had a vision to extend to ground robots. Our vision is that every site should be digitized. Every field team should be empowered with robots and AI. And the real world should be understandable from anywhere.
What has changed is what’s now possible, and at what scale. This isn’t just a science experiment or POC. Autonomous drones are performing exterior capture on a schedule. Ground robots are walking interior corridors overnight. AI processes the data and delivers answers by morning. We’re building toward a future where the site documents itself, allowing the people responsible for it to spend less time chasing information and more time acting on it.
The platform our customers have been asking for
After years of working with the world’s largest construction, energy and infrastructure teams, three things kept coming up. They needed one place for all their site data. They needed machines to do the capture, not people. And they needed AI that could tell them what mattered. That’s what we built.
Unified
Every site, asset and decision in one system – drones, robots, 360 cameras and mobile devices feeding a single record, tied to maps, models and drawings, with one login.
Automated
Machines capture data on repeatable, predictable schedules so people don’t have to walk the site, they can login from anywhere to see progress and change.
Intelligent
AI that surfaces what matters – progress, quality, safety – faster than any human can, trained on billions of square feet and millions of acres of real-world data.
How we show up
1
Build Trust
We are open and accountable with customers, teammates and partners. We deliver on our promises, lead with curiosity and express gratitude.
2
Simplify
We seek the simplicity on the other side of complexity. We are pragmatic, reinvest time to create efficiencies and communicate clearly. Our job is to make the hardest problems in the field feel easy.
3
Make It Happen
We move fast toward hard problems. We take action, take ownership and have agency.
Built by people who care about the work
DroneDeploy is remote-first, globally distributed and deeply mission-driven. Our team spans continents and disciplines – from construction veterans to robotics engineers to machine learning researchers. What holds it together isn’t a campus. It’s the work itself.

DroneDeploy was founded by three people who grew up together, disagreed productively, and refused to build a company they wouldn’t want to work in. That’s still the model.
